Thai Desserts 101
Mango serves "tradition inspired Thai kanom and Thai desserts". We are committed to bring the best of Thai desserts to Kuala Lumpur. Understanding the exceptional Thai taste is really about each individual's taste buds, like any other food. For those who are familiar with Thai dessert making, it involves the art of perfuming and most importantly the technique to produce the flavours. Unlike our local desserts, which are just as delicious, the Thais pay attention to aroma, using flowers to scent water and using a special candle for different desserts and kanom. No one explains this detailed technique in English unlike David Thompson, author of Thai Food. This is what makes Thai desserts so unique, with flavours unlike those readily available at any supermarket, "gerai" or restaurant in KL.
A few individuals don't really understand this, unfortunately. They mistake distinct scents for "going bad" or "oil" (??) Those who have "travelled" the world and are better "experts" than anyone else, including ourselves. We are happy that these individuals are open to try our desserts, but truly disappointed when they criticize us because they don't fully understand what Thai desserts are all about! Yet, we are lucky that majority of our customers, including our Thai customers, are happy to come back again and again to enjoy our desserts.
We hope to provide some classes on Thai Desserts in the future...Til then, we'll continue to serve the best tradition inspired Thai kanom and desserts!

New additions
We've a few new items in the pipeline, that'll be launched in June.. And due to some technical issues, photos will be posted a little later in the week....and also explains the lack of updates.
We also managed to scope out other Thai desserts from various outlets over the weekend, only to confirm that ours tastes even better. Please excuse the bias, but we're dessert freak experts!
Right now, we're glad to see some weekly regulars at the kiosk and are excited about introducing new items real soon...

What a start!
With any new launch, chaos is inevitable! Coupled with little sleep, and bouts of illness, we managed to "make it work" despite things not going to plan! Our first week and it seems Red Rubies a.k.a. Tub Tim Grob ทับทิมกรอบ is the most popular. Egg custard pumpkin, one of our chef's favourite as well, seems to bewilder people.
It's been mistaken for: an avocado, a coconut, and ice-cream! We hope our Thai desserts introduce people to another world of flavours. So far, so good!
Expect more changes to our humble kiosk...

Rush hour
Launching our new "baby" has taken much effort but luckily we've managed to source everything (raw materials) and gathered all our equipment together As consumers we are all used immediate satisfaction, but seldom put much thought in the processes leading up to the end product. So even our humble stall has taken almost as much effort in preparation as a full fledged restaurant!

At the same time, as with most food and beverage outlets, we will continue to improve in all aspects from menu to our displays and deco. Bangkok is our biggest inspiration- the colours from markets to small lanes... Here are some shots that inspire us at MANGO:
Come
by 1st May to Tesco, Mutiara Damansara for free samples- 10am onwards til our stock of desserts last!
