Thai Desserts 101

Mango serves "tradition inspired Thai kanom and Thai desserts". We are committed to bring the best of Thai desserts to Kuala Lumpur. Understanding the exceptional Thai taste is really about each individual's taste buds, like any other food. For those who are familiar with Thai dessert making, it involves the art of perfuming and most importantly the technique to produce the flavours. Unlike our local desserts, which are just as delicious, the Thais pay attention to aroma, using flowers to scent water and using a special candle for different desserts and kanom. No one explains this detailed technique in English unlike David Thompson, author of Thai Food. This is what makes Thai desserts so unique, with flavours unlike those readily available at any supermarket, "gerai" or restaurant in KL.

A few individuals don't really understand this, unfortunately. They mistake distinct scents for "going bad" or "oil" (??) Those who have "travelled" the world and are better "experts" than anyone else, including ourselves. We are happy that these individuals are open to try our desserts, but truly disappointed when they criticize us because they don't fully understand what Thai desserts are all about! Yet, we are lucky that majority of our customers, including our Thai customers, are happy to come back again and again to enjoy our desserts.

We hope to provide some classes on Thai Desserts in the future...Til then, we'll continue to serve the best tradition inspired Thai kanom and desserts!
